European Museum Schengen commemorates the historic signing of the 1985 European Union Treaty. Besides seeing displays with maps and a brief history of the EU, you'll also be able to browse important EU documents. The small museum acts as a centralized tourist office for the countries that are part of the Schengen zone and offers information on the five communes that are included in the Schengen agreement. Next to the Schengen Castle, the attraction is built on top of the castle's former pool. Consider combining a tour of both the castle and the museum. International tour groups meet at the attraction for guided tours of the area that are organized in advance. Contact the museum in advance about joining one of these tours. ... I'd go to Schengen, but the museum, while a bit pompous, is worth a brief visit. The EU spend a lot on printing dull handouts, but long may they do good things like remove border controls more »
Interesting visit on the history of free movement in Europe. Don't forget to print your Schengen passport and to bring an engraved padlock to leave on the padlock metal "tree" outside the museum. The museum is free and there is a café outside. There is a buoy on the river Moselle showing where the 3 countries meet: France, Luxembourg and Germany.
Could be fun for Europhiles like myself. It is free of charge and offers some insight on the schengen agreement. A very nice hiking trail starts from the museum.
