Famous for its wooden ceiling, San Fermo Maggiore, Verona holds the remains of two local saints. Completed in the 15th century, the building combines elements of both Romanesque and Gothic styles. The wooden ceiling extends over the nave, while two paintings of the crucifixion occupy prominent spaces above the main and side entrances. Take a look at the tomb of Nicolo Brenzoni, a wealthy Veronese citizen who died in 1422. Considered a minor masterpiece, the tomb features elements carved by sculptor Nanni di Bartolo, as well as painted images by Renaissance artist Pisanello. Wonderful. The double church is incredible. San Fermo has an upper and lower church from another century. The lower one is little medieval, the upper one is renaissance. And this church has Leonardo's master, the Della Torre grave.
The audio guide (the English one) is a little misleading (at least for me). Sometimes I cannot find the thing that it describes... The interior is ok. The wooden ceiling is quite unique.
