Punta della Dogana, Venice

#55 of 849 in Things to do in Venice
Housed in Venice's old customs building, Punta della Dogana is now a contemporary art museum. The name refers to the triangular area of the city where the Grand Canal meets the Guidecca canal, but it has now become synonymous with the building and its art exhibits. Previously empty for decades, the building was restored in 2009 by French art collector François Pinault, whose €20 million renovation showcases the building's "industrial and minimalist soul." Stand at the tip of the triangle, enjoying views of the vast sea ahead and the canals behind, before heading into the building for a look at some of Venice's finest contemporary art. • Designed by Tadao Ando, this museum has been redesigned from a former customs facility, and has held exhibitions of contemporary art, including the collection of the Francois Pinault Foundation. You can enter the museum with a common ticket with Palazzo Grassi. This exhibition showcased more than 100 works by 36 artists, the LUOGO E SEGNI exhibition. Water buses are also accessible and within walking distance of the Guggenheim Collection. It is a museum that can be recommended for those who love contemporary art and architecture.

  • When you leave the Guggenheim, you think the Pineault Foundation is very close. And then we discover the outer void. In short, unless you want to discover the building, superb and its views, the rest is despairing. The current exhibition is absolutely not worth it, nor the 35 euro entry ...

  • Elegant view of Venice from there. It's worth a walk and spend time there. Sitting on the edge of canal. Very nice place for take a photo and view of some small island. Highly recommend.
  • Nice view from there, quite peaceful, not so many people around as usually.
