Trip Planner: Europe / Italy / Veneto / Province of Venice / City of Venice / Venice / Natural History Museum
Natural History Museum, a small yet artistically arranged natural history museum, is located in a 13th-century palace along the Grand Canal. Walk beneath whale skeletons in the cetaceans gallery, and experience firsthand the ecosystem of the Venetian Gulf in the tegnue aquarium. Discover dinosaur fossils in the paleontology exhibit and view vast collections of artifacts, such as fossils and animal skins, while learning about the methodology of research and collection. Take advantage of the opportunity to touch some of the displays, and enjoy the artifacts and other works of art that complement the natural specimens. I hadn’t planned on visiting until a friend mentioned it to me, so I decided to drop by on the last day. Stunning collection, detailed exhibits. So much more than I was expecting going in. Highly... more »
There's a lot of interesting stuff to see. There's a clear route you can follow, which is nice. The only major downside is there are no English translations for any of the texts next to the museum pieces. I believe the only way to get English translation is if you pay for the audio guide.
A fantastic museum! One of the nicest museums on this subject I've been to, with lots of stuff I'd never seen before like Sarcosuchus and Archaeopterix fossils. Beautifully presented and laid out. The only thing missing is information in English, it's all Italian. Don't forget to listen to the Beluga sounds at the exit to the shop. At €8 per person it's well worth it. An absolute gem!
