  • Big disappointment. While the websites announce it opened, when we arrive in front of the Museum, a note on the door announced only Italian that the Museum is closed for renovations. No date mentioned reopening. And icing on the cake: a poster at the door announces a current exhibition. Must be done!

  • Central to two steps from the ponte Dei Sospiri and the ponte della Canonica, prepared under the auspices of the Patriarch of Venice by Pope Albino Luciani for temporary events in addition to the Permanent Collections. Wonderful collection of works by renowned artists such as Tintoretto, Palma il Giovane, Luca Giordano, the wooden table belliniano Bissolo representing the Holy family, "the lion marching in moleca" high relief in stone of Aurisina of thirteen hundred retrieved in rio di s. Marcuola and many others, that adorned churches today closed or intended for other uses. Paintings that were at risk of being lost or whose original location had become insecure found in this Museum organized a gallery that allows viewing. Secondary not the collection of wooden statues sacred and precious collection of virgins clad sacred craftsmanship that collects 200 also creations of twelve hundred. The former Benedictine monastery of St. Apollonia, erected in twelve hundred, ceased his religious use under Austrian rule and became offices. In relatively recent times under the patriaracato of Roncalli, future Pope John XXIII was regained by the curia, today's American Museum. The cloister remains a charming place of meditation and peace for our walks, available with separate entrance from the top Museum at a cost of one euro; presenting Romanesque closest to the convents of mainland, rather unusual in Venetian convents, a portico with arches supported by columns on both sides of minors, stubby twin balusters on the sides. The walls have found accommodation accessible "Lapidary marciano" the collection of Roman and Byzantine decorative fragments in the past, archaic ornament in the basilica of San Marco, in the center of the cloister you can also admire the well curb the cube-shaped Two hundred.

  • It shows the most beautiful and peaceful Romanesque cloister in Venice. Although the Museum upstairs has no sufficient labelling it seems well provided and good enough for specialists. It is very agreable however to look at. The rooms of the museum preserving furnishings, vestments, sculptures and paintings from the suppression of the Venetian churches and convents, presents one of the richest and oldest collections of sacred silverware composed of over 200 liturgical objects of striking beauty, dating from the thirteenth to the twenty-first century, a collection of canvases of Tintoretto, Palma il Giovane, Gregorio Lazzarini, Luca Giordano, Giannantonio Pellegrini, plus a rich presence of wooden sculptures and a collection of statues of dressed Madonnas. The Diocesan Museum is located behind the Basilica of San Marco and is easily accessible from both the Piazza San Marco and Riva degli Schiavoni, passing through San Zaccaria and Campo Santi Filippo e Giacomo. — C8MR+V8 Venezia, ITALIA
