Browse for books at libreria Acqua alta, an unusually decorated new and used bookshop. Books are shelved among gondolas, rowboats, bathtubs, and oars: choose from a collection of atlases, dictionaries, history books, and biographies. The space is cluttered with stacks of old books used as wall decorations and supports for stairs. Get a view of the canal through the back door, while saying hello to the store's collection of roaming cats. • We went there on two different days. On the first day of the afternoon around 5pm we found a crowd of tourists who made us ignore the largest and most beautiful part of the bookshelf. The next day we went back around 10am and the situation was decidedly different. We were able to enjoy our visit and even buy books. The peculiarity of this bookcase are the books used and scattered in tubs, gondolas, crates and barrels, isolated from the floor to protect them from the high water. The only flaw is that it is always overrun with tourists interested in the appearance of the bookstore more than the books in them. I recommend going in the morning, close to the opening hours.

  • It's a crazy place. A place where thousands of ideas are stored in boats and in the bathroom. Place a maze of knowledge and beauty and attempts to save these ideas from the unpredictability of channels. Ladder of self-development of sunken books, cat at the checkout, parking for gandol. That's what magic looks like.

  • This bookstore is extremely interesting. They keep their books is gondolas in some spots due to the frequent flooding (I'm guessing that's what draws people in) but it's more that that. It seems small but there are so many books in this shop! It was enough to just walk through and read the titles - the atmosphere is very peaceful. Definitely a must see for any book lover on your trip to Venice.
  • Quaint unique bookshop that's is/was know to get flooded. It's nice to visit and see. If you live cats, they have a few resident gattos. Due to its popularity it can get very busy/full so be prepared
