Chiesa di San Nicolo al Lido, Venice

4.8
Home to the remains of St. Nicholas, Chiesa di San Nicolo al Lido serves as one of Venice's traditional and symbolic boundaries. Originally constructed during the Middle Ages, much of the church's external architecture dates from the 16th and 17th centuries. For many sailors, this chapel was their final sight before leaving the city, and the relics of St. Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors, only reinforced its significance. Pay a visit to the historical building, located along the outskirts of the city near the airport, and you'll find a church rather plain in appearance, but featuring an ornate interior full of statues and reliefs. Note that the outer facade of the building remains unfinished. Put Chiesa di San Nicolo al Lido into our Venice trip planner to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in Venice.

  • Wonderful temple with a beautiful shrine. Is far away from the Lido Pier walk two kilometers. The relics themselves hidden in a sarcophagus with a little muddy glass. Nearby is an icon-the gift of the ROC too with a little moshhevikom of St. Nicholas. In addition, the Church has a number of beautiful murals on the walls. Works up to 12:00, but no one progonjal and later. Near the relics, as well as near an icon of our Lady of the candles and stand "washers" of wax for 2 and 0.5 respectively (self-service). With its maloljudnosti, the Church gives the impression of quite intimate. By the way, it is visible and with the southern shore of Venice, especially good-from Saint Helena.

  • ATTENTION! The temple is not always open and accessible for visitors! In the temple THERE is Saint Nicholas icons for sale and NO oils on sale! It is much more pleasant for me was to visit the Church of Saint Nicholas in Bari. Twice I had to come here from Venice, to get inside. At the entrance hangs the ad that you can call. Call to my question "why you closed, because today it is written that the temple is open up to 12 days, and now 11 am and all closed?", father Alex answers me: "I'm not making schedule, come tomorrow at 8-30 am" will open. It is ok???? I as a historian of religions declare that it is not normal! If the Temple holds such a relic, like the relics of St. Nicholas, the Church should be open all day!
