The Church of St Job is a 15th-century Roman Catholic church located overlooking the campo of the same name, known as Sant'Agiopo in Venetian dialect, on the south bank of the Cannaregio canal near Ponte dei Tre Archi in the sestiere of Cannaregio of Venice, northern Italy,HistoryThe church is dedicated to Saint Job. It is one of the five votive churches built in Venice after an onset of plague. In 1378 a hospice with a small oratory dedicated to San Giobbe or Saint Job attached was begun on this site by Giovanni Contarini, on land he owned near his house. It was completed by his daughter Lucia, with the help of the Minor Observant Friars. The oratory was replaced by the present church by Bernardino of Siena, with the financial backing of doge Cristoforo Moro in gratitude for Bernardino's prophecy that Moro would become doge - Cristoforo donated 10,000 ducats to the building works in 1471, three months before his death, and was buried in the church. Work began in 1450, paused until 1470, and was finally consecrated in 1493, as one of the first examples of Renaissance architecture in the city. It was begun by Antonio Gambello and (when work began again in 1470) completed by the sculptor and architect Pietro Lombardo, with the latter designing the present altar arch and main door as well as much of the interior decoration.Plan your Chiesa di San Giobbe visit and explore what else you can see and do in Venice using our Venice driving holiday tool .

The single-nave interior has a series of chapels on the left side and altars on the right side. The altar San Giobbe, of exceptional dimensions, presents a magnificent altar "Appearance of God to Job" by Lattanzio QUERENA and the altar Sanudo the wonderful altar "Virgin to the Child in Glory and Saints" of Bonifacio de PITATI. Also on the right side is the sumptuous funeral monument of the Count of Argenson, ambassador to Venice, of Louis XIV. In front of the splendid gilded wooden altar, the imposing tombstone of the doge Cristoforo MORO appears. The Sacristy, containing beautiful works of art, including a wonderful triptych, has a grandiose painted coffered ceiling. The left side of the nave houses the MARTINI Chapel, whose remarkable ceiling is made up of glazed terracotta medallions from the workshop of Luca DELLA ROBBIA (the Florentine master of ceramics). These are just a few of the works to admire... Unfortunately, during our more than 2 hours of visit, we recorded the presence of 4 people! How sad!!!!
Auch wenn uns die Keramiken von della Robbia bestens bekannt sind aus der Toskana, so ist es ungewöhnlich sie in Venedig wiederzufinden. Es gibt nur einen Ort dazu und das ist die Chiesa di San Giobbe... more »Although the ceramics of della Robbia are well known to us from Tuscany, it is unusual to find them in Venice. There is only one place and this is the Chiesa di San Giobbe, where we will find 5 wonderful "Robbiane" on the ceiling of the chapel of the Martini.
