  • We visited the Synagogue on the occasion of the European Day of Jewish Culture, and we had as a guide a very well-prepared person, Mrs. Di Chio, whom we still thank for its exhibition clarity. We also visited the underground part and objects reserved for religious worship. Very interesting visit.

  • This synagogue with atypical Moorish exterior architecture is located in the heart of the San Salvario district, near the large Porta Nuova train station. Despite the height of its four "towers", you will probably have to consult your plan or ask your way to a passer-by (without guarantee, even the Turinese get lost in this maze and will inform you via their smartphone)... Largely rebuilt after the war, it is superb, the gradients of colors remarkable and you would believe yourself somewhere in the Middle East than in the capital of Piedmont. Access to the interior is normally impossible, as in most European synagogues, and even at a party and accompanied by a Jewish friend/ve, it is unlikely that you will be let in, the community of Turin not really doing part of the liberal current (the "women's room" is still upstairs...!) and the fear of an attack is still present. There may be occasional visits, men are asked to cover their heads as in any other synagogue. Don't hesitate to photograph this singular building from all angles... but refrain from taking pictures of factional soldiers night and day to ensure security, or even to speak to them for information, it is not in their mission, and that is fine. It is not an indispensable monument to see during a brief stay in Turin, but it is still worth a detour, at least if you are staying in San Salvario, and this will change you from the countless Catholic churches. Find out about its "history" is interesting! To see by day, no night lighting.
