The Obelisk of Luigi Belli, erected in 1892, celebrates the military expedition that between 1855 and 1856, under the command of General Alfonso Lamarmora, took part in the Crimean War against Russia alongside France, England and Turkey. It was commissioned by Cavour, who, having obtained from the King the resignation of Foreign Minister for incoliabili positions, he assumed the position on an interim basis, at which point he sent Lamarmora in support of other Nations, in order to enter the Kingdom of Sardinia in the game European politician. On the evening of 1 June of 1892 was inaugurated in the presence of King Umberto I (1844-1900) and the monument for the celebration of the Crimean expedition, by sculptor Luigi Belli (1844-1919), Professor of ornamental plastic at the Academy Albertina.
