Villa Carlotta, Tremezzina

4.7
#1 of 490 in Parks in Lombardy
Visit Villa Carlotta, built in 1690, to see a decorated house and botanical garden filled with fine art. Admire views of Lake Como as you wander through the garden among camellias, century-old cedars, a rock garden, rhododendrons, and a bamboo garden. Discover 19th-century sculptures, including pieces by Canova and Thorvaldsen. On the villa's first floor, see Hayez's "The Last Kiss of Romeo and Juliet" painting--one the collection's masterpieces. Princess Marianne of the Netherlands bought this villa for her daughter in the mid-18th century, and the second floor features furniture, pictures, and decorations from that period. The ancient greenhouse is now a cafe. Pick up an audio guides, or ask about guided tours. • This was not on our list of places to visit but certainly glad we did. The Villa is old and quite large. The scenery from the balconies is fantastic and the gardens are very extensive and beautifully ...  more »
  • The Carlotta villa is located on the shores of Lake Come, entrance with an affordable family rate. The gardens are beautiful, visit that can be done with family with children.A view of beauty on the lake and the different spaces. Going up to the olive garden at the top, the view is splendid. A short detour to the restaurant in an old glass greenhouse of beauty. The villa is full of paintings and statue, with a few more contemporary elements on the top floor. To visit without hesitation.

  • We spent an afternoon going round both the house and gardens. Excellent value for money. What a lovely way to spend time, the house is magnificent and the gardens were in full bloom and so we'll kept well worth a visit . The cafe and shop are an added bonus. What an enjoyable few hours we had.
  • We spent nearly a full day here. Wonderful and varied gardens and an interesting museum/gallery. The olive grove was quiet and well worth a visit (and the many warnings of great peril unfounded). The cafe was also very good indeed and great value for Como.
