Galleria Borghese is housed in a villa once used for elegant private parties. The art gallery contains a substantial part of a collection of paintings and sculptures amassed by Scipione Borghese, a 17th-century cardinal and art patron. Borghese was an early benefactor of artists Caravaggio and Bernini. You can explore 20 rooms across two floors. The main floor is mostly devoted to the period between the first and the third centuries, featuring mosaics of gladiators and several sculptures. In other sections of the gallery, you can see works by such artists as Canova, Raphael, Correggio, Titian, Rubens, and Veronese. An advance ticket, which you can book on the gallery's website, is required. A must see in Rome, the minute you enter you are left in awe at the wonderment of the art pieces, especially of course the spectacular Bernini sculptures. BEWARE of the EXTREMELY RUDE AND UNFRIENDLY p... more »

Spectacular villa full of exceptional paintings and sculptures. You have to book on the net, the ticket is expensive and the maximum duration of the visit is two hours. It is accessed through a basement, there is a short line to pick up paper tickets (!), then a row for the wardrobe (where you can NOT leave overcoats), then a row for audio guides, then a line to enter, all without clear indications. The halls do not have a number, there is no suggested path, many works of art do not have tags. Let's hope they get organizedView original

Absolutely spectacular! Be warned that no bags are allowed, except very small handbags. You can put your belongings in a locker for free though, so don't worry.Fabulous place & some truly amazing artwork. Visits are limited to 2 hours, which can make the visit a rushed. Toilets on the staircase are worth a visit. Cafe is good too. Well worth a visit if you like art.

Sculptures and paintings were beautiful, and the museum/villa has been well-restored. I think it will be worth your time. Entry was disorganized...the inside lower-level entrance marked on the map, but they decided to only let us enter through the upstairs entrance in the blazing sun. And waited until two minutes before entry time to inform the long line of people waiting downstairs. Management: at €15 a head, you can afford to provide toilet paper in at least one of the restrooms.
