Basilica of Superga, Province of Turin

Explore the Basilica of Superga to discover the tombs of many princes and kings of the House of Savoy. The church you see here today is a result of a promise Duke Victor Amadeus II of Savoy made in September 1706. He climbed a hill and saw Turin besieged by Franco-Spanish forces. He swore that, in case of victory, he would have a monument built to the Virgin Mary on the very hill where he stood. Climb the church's spiral staircase for views the city and, on clear days, the Alps. Take a guided tour for access to special areas. • We arrived at the basilica and unfortunately we found it closed for restoration. A real shame ...

  • Came over the Hill, we found that the Interior of the basilica is undergoing restoration and therefore not open to the public. We then visited the Royal crypt and the plaque in memory of the massacre of Superga.

  • I recommend it. Great panorama view of whole city. Come at night, when the sky is clear. Incredible view.
  • Heavenly. Take the tour of the royal mausoleum. No pictures allowed and tours are only offered in Italian, but it's well worth it. Be sure to check the times of the rack railroad so you don't have to wait at the station too long.
