Basilica of Superga, Province of Turin

4.5
Explore the Basilica of Superga to discover the tombs of many princes and kings of the House of Savoy. The church you see here today is a result of a promise Duke Victor Amadeus II of Savoy made in September 1706. He climbed a hill and saw Turin besieged by Franco-Spanish forces. He swore that, in case of victory, he would have a monument built to the Virgin Mary on the very hill where he stood. Climb the church's spiral staircase for views the city and, on clear days, the Alps. Take a guided tour for access to special areas. • Arriving at the top of The Hill of Suoperfga we found the sanctuary in renovation, we had not been notified at the tourist office, there were signs of signs. Too bad. we consoled ourselves with the beautiful panorama and the visit to the prince's note that recalls the tragedy of "Great Turin". the scarf and thread on the Chapecoense tragedy.

  • If you want to see Turin from above and breathe a bit of nature is the ideal place You can climb above the chapel, just a few euros, but checked the schedules because it is not always open

  • One of the best highlights in Turin, and a must go place around 450m above the city. On a clear day, you can see the high mountains of the Alps 20+ km away, with a lot of snow covering their peaks, even in the summer! A 2 way ticket using the funicular train, costs around 9€. The views from above there are breathtaking, they would depict the most beautiful painting! If you’re into high places / inspiration points, this place is definetly for you!
  • A beautiful place! We went on a very foggy day so couldn't see Turin but we still enjoyed walking around the outside of the Basilica. Could do with a few more signs telling about the history, and unfortunately due to renovation works we were unable to look inside. Still, a beautiful building and the tram going up was lovely.
