Pompeii Archaeological Park
Pompeii Archaeological Park, a World Heritage site, was once a thriving Roman city. The famous cataclysmic eruption of the nearby Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE destroyed it, as well as nearby Herculaneum, Stabiae, Oplontis and part of Boscoreale. When the volcano erupted, the entire settlement was covered with a deep layer of ash. Nearly 3,000 people died that day, and the ash quickly settled, preserving the city in almost its original state. Today, this is an open-air museum of the everyday life as it must have been when the ancient Roman civilization flourished here. Among the thousands of objects perfectly preserved by ash are ceramic pots, jewelry, furniture, and frescoes. We went in October. Still people around but no queues. Temperature was perfect around 20'c. Only drawback it gets dark at 1730 so you can not see anymore. We rented the audio headsets, well worth it. ... more »

What an amazing experience. I had high expectations of the park and I was still blown away. This is a once in a lifetime sort of experience. It only costs 15€ per person to enter the site. You won’t find much written explanations on what you are seeing in the park so, you will need an audio guide (for about 8€) or you can also hire a professional tour guide who are usually available at the main entrances. I recommend doing some research on Pompeii to understand what you will be visiting. You won’t receive much explanation as to what happened or the significance of this city. You can easily spend an entire day here, however we spent about 4-5 hours touring and it was the perfect length in my opinion. Be prepared to walk a lot and bring water and snacks as there is a limited amount of food within the site but you will find water fountains throughout. We were also able to store our luggage on site for free, which was a great perk. All in all, it was fantastic!

If visiting Pompeii then visiting the Archaeological Park is a must. This tour was well worth my 5* review. Would highly recommend a guide with audio so you don't miss anything.I was looking forward to this trip and my visit didn't disappoint me.An unbelievable tour taking you back over 2000 years to what life was like before Mount Vesuvius erupted and covered the area in ash.I couldn't believe how big the area was we had to walk. Two hours was probably enough so make sure you have plenty of sun block a hat and plenty to drink.Comfortable footwear is also essential. This trip is not for anyone who is a little uneasy walking and a big no no for anyone in a wheelchair unfortunately. Be prepared to be blown away as you are taken back in time.
