Since Roman times, a bridge has stood over the Ticino river at this spot--Ponte Coperto itself was built in 1949 when Allied bombing destroyed the previous one, dating from 1354. Today, the covered brick and stone arch bridge is a great place to take in the sights of Pavia away from the crowds. A chapel stands on the bridge, just as it has since medieval times. I was in Italy for a portion of my summer vacation! I had a wonderful time. This place was very nice at night.
