Parco Ducale, open to the public, contains 3.2 km (2 mi) of tree-lined avenues. Ottavio Farnese gave the mandate in 1561 to architect Giovanni Boscoli to begin construction on a family residence. Subsequent rulers expanded the green space and gave the people of the city access. Joggers often exercise here. Bring picnic food and a blanket to relax in the shade.   • Peaceful, tree-lined promenades, beautiful pond full of wildlife. An enjoyable place to walk. Includes children's playground. Very close to city center.
