Parco Ducale, open to the public, contains 3.2 km (2 mi) of tree-lined avenues. Ottavio Farnese gave the mandate in 1561 to architect Giovanni Boscoli to begin construction on a family residence. Subsequent rulers expanded the green space and gave the people of the city access. Joggers often exercise here. Bring picnic food and a blanket to relax in the shade. Services such as toilets or restaurants may not be available. Plan your visit to Parco Ducale and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Parma trip planner.
