Tucked away in the Alps, Santuario di Oropa is a religious sanctuary where you can also stay overnight. Be sure to check out the smaller basilica, which houses the statue of the Madonna of Oropa. The church is an excellent starting point for hiking, skiing, and rock climbing in the mountains. A range of rooms are available, and there's a restaurant on site. Santuario di Oropa Reviews
Il Santuario é molto bello, peccato ora la basilica nuova si trovi in ristrutturazione. È un posto carino dove concedersi un po' di spiritualità more »The Sanctuary is very beautiful, too bad now the new basilica is under renovation. It's a nice place to indulge in some spirituality
Purtroppo il Santuario o basilica superiore non era accessibile causa ristrutturazioni. Era però visitabile la basilica inferiore della Madonna Nera. Molto bella è ben conservata sicuramente una visit... more »Unfortunately the Upper Shrine or Basilica was not accessible due to renovations. However, the lower basilica of the Black Madonna could be visited. Very nice is well preserved definitely a visit not to be missed. The whole area is beautiful and definitely worth the visit. Unfortunately, however, I noticed that everything revolves around God money. You can see it right away as there is no real picnic area that in such a place should never be missing. So we tend to push pilgrims to bars and restaurants that, yes, are not lacking. The only positive note is the presence of "decent" public services next to the upper basilica in the parking area. Another very sore note is the devotional path and the 12 chapels. Almost completely missing the route indications especially for the first chapels. Often you have to make do with climbing on makeshift trails. Obviously access to disabled and disabled not fit, it is impossible. More than half of the chapels themselves are in a state of total abandonment. very sad to see, especially when compared to those of the Holy Mount of Varallo. Evidently there is no will here to enhance these works. It also lacks the lighting inside them and the view is absolutely difficult, especially when the sky clouds. which is very likely in these areas... that's too bad!!!
Wow, this place is amaizing. Visiting the churches is something and going up the mountain, walking inside the forest is brilliant way to spend the day out with family. Water so cold and we enjoyed walking up the rocks. Definitely recommend this place to everyone to visit. I will go there again.
Beautiful and amazing place for having a trip with your family and friends. However it's hard to reach it with public transportation, better to go there by car. Since it's cold in winter it's better to go there when it's warm and sunny. The view is amazing, the church itself isn't open all the time, during religious events (especially on Sundays it's not open to public to visit).
