Villa Necchi Campiglio, Milan

#3 of 115 in Museums in Milan
History Museum · Hidden Gem · Museum
One of Milan's museum houses, Villa Necchi Campiglio offers a glimpse into villa architecture in interwar Italy. Designed by Italian architect Piero Portaluppi, this was created as a single-family home with opulent grounds, rather than a palace or mansion. Over the years, it was home to Milanese elite and European royalty. As you wander from one richly decorated room to another, admire paintings and other artwork from the 18th through the 20th centuries. • Absolutely stunning! The grounds, architecture, art and furnishings are spectacular. Our guide was very informative. I thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon there. Highly recommend.  more »
  • This was the perfect setting to see good art in an intimate and interesting setting. If only going to see the villa, it's worth it. The details of paneling, flooring, structure are exceptional...  more »
  • Amazing Villa. Fabulous art. Wonderful, informative guide. Guided tours only, so we had to wait a while for an English tour. The tour lasted more than an hour because the guide was so knowledgeable. Plan your visit accordingly if you have many sites to see in Milan.
  • There’s no doubt that the villa is a spectacular example of the period with a range of important art works, including Picasso, Chagall, Canaletto and Matisse (which they really seem to play down in their blurb). Our guide was disappointing, reeling off facts in an apathetic manner and not really doing a great deal to engage with us or the house and it’s details. At one point she told one of the guests to be more polite - he’d only asked her to speak more slowly. But well worth a visit (don’t expect any food in the cafe, either).
