Isola Madre, at 220 m wide and 330 m long, is the largest island of the Isole Borromee archipelago which falls within the Italian part of the Alpine Lake Maggiore, in the Province of Verbano Cusio Ossola, Piedmont.

The island is occupied by a number of buildings and architectural structures and is especially well known for its gardens.

In the past it was known as Isola di San Vittore and later as Isola Maggiore.

  • Took the ferry to the islands. Palazzo is totally overpriced but the island itself is a nice walk. So 3/5  more »
  • You feel you have to visit this and the other islands when you are visiting Lake Maggiore. And while the gardens were well worth a visit, the palace itself felt a but underwhelming, dominated by wax....  more »
  • Lovely island, garden, birds and villa. Good range of plants from around the world with shady paths. Bar inside garden and restaurant outside.
  • Heaven on earth!!! Great souvenirs around there to. Don't forget to carry your costume.
