The beating heart of the city's political life since the 14th century, photogenic Piazza della Signoria is lined by modern cafes and packed with Renaissance sculptures. This lively L-shaped square is named after the massive Romanesque fortress-palace that overlooks it. A favorite meeting place of Florentines, the square is like an open-air museum of art with its numerous statues, including a copy of Michelangelo's sculpture of David. An ornate fountain features a large figure of Neptune, the Roman god of the sea. The square serves as a gateway to the Uffizi Gallery, which displays more of the city's art. The statues are all quite beautiful and if you don’t want to make it to Galleria Academia, a replica of Michelangelo’s David stands tall in the beginning of the square. Fun fact: if you look closely at where David’s head is pointed, you’ll notice his line of sight directly points to the head of Medusa, giving the effect that he was turned to stone.
There were some nice statues here with which we also took some pics. Very crowded as well. Since its beginning during the Middle Ages, the Piazza della Signoria has been the political heart of the city. There are some wonderful statues here although some are not the actual originals but enjoy them nevertheless. Its free here and you can stay for as long as you like.
