Inside, admire important frescoes, the wooden choir, and the large silver and gold altar cross. Climb 502 steps to the top of the iconic bell tower, the tallest premodern building in Italy. The ascent on foot (504 steps!) on top of the Torrazzo, worth the hassle.
Grazie alla guida, ho capito a pieno sia la storia della città che della cattedrale, molto più interessante che vedere solo una struttura ecclesiastica con occhi profani, dettagli curiosi e artistici ... more »Thanks to the Guide, I fully understand both the history of the city and the Cathedral, much more interesting than seeing just a layman's perspective, ecclesiastical structure and artistic details explained.
This is one of the few places where you can find an astronomical clock. There is some amazing working to make this work. This clock has stairs you can climb to see the clock work. You can also climb higher to get an overview of the city. Would love to come back and explore more of the city.
Large and lovely church. Crypt and tower are a must. When each person arrives at the top of the tower it is always Wow! So amazing!
