Home to a historical museum, Museo di Santa Giulia was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2011. After ancient remains were discovered on the grounds, the monastery was converted into a museum for the artifacts' display. View Roman houses that were excavated from beneath the orchard, as well as Bronze Age artifacts that were scattered around the area. You can continue your tour into Romanesque and Renaissance Italy in the basilica, where frescoes painted by Romanino grace the walls. Absolutely gorgeous. The feminist photo installation is so captivating and the museum has exhibits in Italian and English. Staff are more than helpful (especially if you make an effort to speak Italian 😉)
For history lovers this is a excellent museum. Amazing Roman remains of two houses with mosaic floors and many artifacts. Also the Chapel and crypt are not to be missed. Very helpful and friendly staff. Allow 2 hours.
