Andrea, the school founder, is energetic and passionate about his school. He is very welcoming and wants the school to be very student centered. The school, however, has grown rapidly in the last couple years and seems to have suffered some growing pains, particularly on the organizational side. The long-time full-time teachers are excellent (eg, Roberto, Donatella, Dora, Alice, Rudolfo), but Andrea no longer teaches. Some of the teachers who are hired for high enrollment weeks have been less good. School organization was an issue; there were no placement exams, and students are placed in classes fairly haphazardly. I was twice put in the wrong level, mostly because the correct level class was already full. My classes had 12 students, with varying levels of competence. I ended up staying in the wrong level class because there was nowhere else to go. As a result, I can speak and write well in the past and conditional tense, but am hopelessly bad at the present tense. Classes are in the morning and last about 3 hours (not 4), with a long coffee break before the last session. Every afternoon, there is usually a free tour or activity around the city with a teacher. These outings are excellent opportunities to receive continued coaching at no extra cost. In sum, if you want to learn in a relaxed and friendly environment and are flexible about how and what you might learn, this school will be fine. On the other hand, if you are ambitious and prefer a more systematic approach, you might want to consider another school. Bologna is a beautiful city and is a wonderful place to learn. I enjoyed my stay, but there are many options across Italy.
Absolutely recommended. Andrea is a fantastic person with an obvious love and passion for his job - this is reflected in his choice of staff who are animated and caring teachers. I certainly learned a lot and on top of it all both the location and extra-curricular activities offered are top notch.
This school is an excellent choice if you are looking for a small group language immersion course. Teachers and school owner, Andrea, are wonderful!!! This should be your top choice when coming to Bologna. Prices are reasonable and there are free activities with the school every day to museums and nearby towns. Excellent choice!
