Pavillon de Vendome, Aix-en-Provence

#1 of 10 in Parks in Aix-en-Provence
Garden · Historic Site
Previously a grand mansion, Pavillon de Vendome is now the home of a museum displaying ancient and contemporary paintings, photography, and other artwork. Admire rare, 17th- and 18th-century paintings and sculptures. The mansion is an example of ancient Classical architecture and was registered as a historical monument in 1914. The central fountain in the museum's French garden is especially well-preserved. • If you happen to pass by, have a look at this nice 17 century private hotel that belonged to the duc de Vendôme, Antoine Matisse. There is a museum inside that regularly hosts different exhibitions. The gardens surrounding the house are great during the summer.
  • These lovely traditional formal gardens were on the route from our hotel to the centre of Aix, so we stopped off a couple of times. There are lots of benches to sit on, and it's a nice tranquil spot.
