See a collection of significant pre-Columbian cave drawings at Cueva de Ambrosio. Located in an ecological preserve, the 300 m (984 ft) deep cave represents an important archaeological site, with 72 rupestrian drawings believed to have been made by members of the Taino culture more than 2,000 years ago. The striking designs of the red and black figures add much to the evocative sense of mystery here. The cave also offers a refuge for hundreds of fruit-eating bats, so keep an eye out for the gentle winged creatures darting around the cave and hanging from the ceiling. It was neat to see the bats and the cave paintings. The tour guide was interesting. Worth the price of admission!
Interesting especially for the light and shadows and for the bats living there. The ancient wall inscriptions and paintings are interesting if you have a guide explaining them (it's included in the entrance fee which is 5 CUC). Closes at 4:30pm. We were a bit rushed by the guide who had to leave.
