La tour Saint-Pierre, populairement appelée Peperbusse (poivrier), située derrière l’actuelle église st Pierre et Paul, est le seul élément qui subsiste de l'ancienne église Saint-Pierre du XVe s. rav... more »St. Peter's Tower, popularly known as Peperbusse (pepper), located behind the present-day St Peter and Paul Church, is the only remaining element of the former 15th century St. Peter's Church, which was ravaged by fire on August 14, 1896. The massive square base of 1478 was surmounted by an octagonal superstructure in 1729. It was preserved as the last witness of the city, dating from before the siege of Ostend (1601-1604). At the foot of this tower, on the north side, is a monumental ordeal erected by the Brotherhood of Mont-de-Pieété in 1766. Since 1998, however, it has been like a theatre stage with its pink curtain raised and a background setting depicting a panorama, painted at the beginning of the 20th century, of the city of Jerusalem as seen from Golgotha. Mary and John stand at the foot of the cross on a rocky ensemble. The whole thing is protected from pigeons by a trellis. A large niche under the ordeal houses four characters begging for their salvation in the flames of purgatory.
This is a great church the people there are super sweet and kind
